Dec 11, 2024: Elmhurst Community Partnership Coat Drive Recap

In 2024, Queens mutual aid, hosted by Kaleidospace, Veggie Nuggets, and MJN/Street Works supported Elmhurst Community Partnership’s (ECP) big warm clothing drive. Thanks to community, our young network gathered and distributed 47 pairs of socks, 10 pairs of women's tights, and 15 pairs of gloves in less than one week and in partnership with 3 local shops. Veggie Nuggets, Kaleidospace, and Street Works/MJN are held our 2nd small potluck on Sunday @ 7:30pm @ Suryaside Yoga, 49-06 Skillman Ave, Woodside, Queens, to continue planning next steps on mutual aid network building, hold space for voter education, and continue to be together as we think about what our communities need to support justice, including climate justice, in 2025 and beyond.

Veggie Nuggets, Kaleidospace, and Street Works/MJN held a small potluck on Sunday @ 4:30pm @ 2nd Story Pilates and Yoga Studio (between 81st and 82nd on 37th ave in Jackson Heights) to start brainstorming what a local mutual aid network could look like, hold space for voter education, and generally just be together as we think about what our communities need to support justice, including climate justice, in 2025 and beyond.

Public space at work: 34 Avenue open street

Street Works seek to make justice normal in the cultural asset ecosystem by resisting systemic injustices. One way is in how we seek to design an alternative to status quo artistic presentation models, including museums. That is why we focus on public space — shared space.

The 2024 Street Work will take place on 34th Avenue’s Open Street in Jackson Heights, Queens, a 26 block stretch starting at 69th Street and spanning about 1.3 miles, that closes every day from 8 AM to 8 PM.
