Climate Justice Actions
We’re building a library of climate justice actions that any of us can take. It's a huge topic with many ways to act. As a grassroots, mostly volunteer led group centering creative expression, we hold these goals:
Root in neighborhoods we're in — Queens / NY — and show how local actions broadly apply.
Treat resources like Wikis, not time-bound articles.
Focus on resources that have lasting value in a fast-changing world.
Help all choose our own adventures based on interests/capacities.
As always: focus on justice and what it means.
Principle and values
Start here if you’re wondering what serves justice. This could help you decide what group you'd like to be a part of or create. 2 things we keep in mind: justice is about everything, not just climate, and systems will push us to default to injustice if we don't resist —all the time.
Coping with disaster
Climate change increases the likelihood of extreme weather, including heat and floods. And disaster, as well as failed government responses, are more likely to hit BIPOC communities. Preparedness also means something different when you experience many forms of disaster all the time. We're learning how to build wells of wisdom, act faster, and protect each other.
NY climate policies, explained
We're building out some explainers on climate policies in New York for folks like us who came to this work without policy expertise. There are many policies: if you’d like to help write more — including for other states— reach out!
How narratives form
MJN sees narrative as the stories, facts, beliefs, and ideas that are told to us, we tell ourselves, and we tell others. We’re learning about how false, unjust narratives form and how to design differently. We'd love your thoughts.
Secrets of financial systems
Our financial system is hard to understand. But people closest to wealth have insider’s knowledge that makes it easier for them to game the system — and design it in their favor. We want to expose some of the mechanics for the rest of us.
Composting
Composting is a climate solution, but it requires new systems and infrastructure. If you're interested in helping us build resources unique to your home/area, please let us know!
